The parish of Rochester with Byrness lies at the northern end of the Rede Valley in Northumberland. Its northern edge borders on Scotland, to the south lies the parish of Otterburn, on the eastern side the landscape is dominated by the Ministry of Defence ranges and to the west lie the hills separating the Rede Valley from North Tynedale.
